Naturalism (1 mai 1890 – 1 avr. 1910)
Description:
Naturalists accepted the material world as real and felt that literature should be realistic. Although it is a continuation of Realism, it lacked the underlying note of liberal optimism about people and society that had been prevalent in the 1850s. The Naturalists were pessimistic about Europe's future and often portrayed characters caught in the grip of forces beyond their control.
