Edward Lawler "An Affect Theory of Social Exchange" (1 sept. 2001 – 1 sept. 2001)
Description:
In 2001, Edward Lawler published the paper "An Affect Theory of Social Exchange", which was a departure from earlier work in Social Exchange. Unlike earlier sociologists, who had focused primarily on social exchange theory as a rational analysis of the cost and benefits of a relationship, Lawler's Affect Theory proposed that emotion was a key part of social exchange. In Lawler's paper, he found that emotions act as either internal punishments or reinforcements within social exchange theory and analysed how the relationships and attachments of an individual relate to their emotional experiences in the theory of social exchange.
