Description:

Beginning in the 18th century, the industrial revolution had a great impact on the English language, mainly due to the advancements of technology and science. Economic development during this time meant there was a need for new vocabulary to describe the changes in society.
Scientific advances and discoveries meant the development of new words to describe inventions and terms that were never needed before- new vocabulary was derived from classical languages, such as Greek and Latin.
A combination of the industrial revolution and Britain's colonization of countries across the world impacted the English language, and established it as a global language.
Examples of lexemes which surfaced around this time include vaccine, lens, chromosome, caffeine, and bacteria. These words stemmed from Latin and Greek.
