Iziaslav I (5 févr. 1024 – 3 oct. 1078)

Description:

3rd Son of Yaroslav the Wise. Brother of: Sviatoslav II, Vsevolod I,
Father of:
1) Sviatopolk II (Novgorod)
2) 2 other sons (Volyn/Turov & Novgorod)

Eldest surviving son of Yaroslav, and inherited Kiev. Put down a rebellion of Vseslav the Seer, but during an uprising he fled Kiev and Vseslav took control. Iziaslav retook it without a fight when he returned several mos. later and Vseslav fled in the night.

The ease of which Vseslav escaped and retook his princedom, Iziaslav's bother's suspected him of a treasonous alliance. In 1073 his younger brother Sviatoslav captured Kiev, and held it for 6 yrs. Passing it to his younger brother Vsevolod upon his death.

Iziaslav fled to Poland, then Germany for aid. Receiving none, he pleaded to Pope in Rome, who ordered the Polish king-to-be to assist Iziaslav in exchange for the Pope's blessing. Iziaslav returned to Kiev where Vsevolod ceided the throne to him peacefully.

Now in an alliance with his brother Vsevolod, they fought against the rebellion of their nephews: Boris (Grandson of Yaroslav I) & Oleg (son of Sviatoslav II). Iziaslav and Boris died during the battle of Nezhatina Niva.
