Description:
Major portions of the HRE were part of Charlemagne's kingdom. Pope Leo III crowned him "Roman Emperor" in 800.Otto the Great King of East Francia through marriage and military victories, ruled over what would be the HRE. Pope John XII crowned him emperor, creating the HRE.
