The Great Vowel Shift (14 avr. 1300 – 14 avr. 1750)
Description:
A series of changes made to the way we pronounce long vowel sounds.
It began in Southern England and majorly factored into the separation of Middle English and Modern English.
It is said to be the most significant change in sound the English language has ever had.
Other changes were also happening, some voiceless fricatives changed pronunciations, others were lost from the English language.
Many consonants were stopped being pronounced as well.
