Jean Jacques Rousseau (1 mai 1712 – 1 déc. 1778)

Description:

Jean Jacques Rousseau wrote the "Social Contract" in which he argued that all individuals should participate directly in the formulation of policy and the creation of laws in society. However, he and many other englightment thinkers were white men of comfortabnle means but common birth who wanted to enhance their social status and limiting the power of traditional ruling classes through radical enlightment ideas. He did not envision a society in which he would share political rights and liberties with women, children, and people of color.
