Description:
D. Pedro V was born on September 16th 1837 and reigned as King of Portugal from 1853 to 1861.
His nickname was The Hopeful.
He sought radical modernisation of the Portuguese state and infrastructure and founded the Higher Education Course and the Astronomical Observatory of Tapada da Ajuda, in Lisbon.
