The Steel Strike of 1959 (15 juill. 1959 – 7 nov 1959)
Description:
This was a 116 day labor strike that the United Steelworkers of America started because management was going to destroy a contract that would reduce hours and the amount of workers on a task. The strike's effects persuaded President Dwight D. Eisenhower to invoke the back-to-work provisions of the Taft-Hartley Act. The union sued to have the Act declared unconstitutional, but the Supreme Court upheld the law.
