Claire Bishop !!! (1 janv. 1971 – 1 janv. 2018)
Description:
Claire Bishop is an art historian, critic, author, and professor in the art history department at CUNY Graduate Center, New York since September 2008.
The social turn:
Artists are increasingly judged by their working process, the way they are good or bad models of collaboration and criticised for any hint of potential exploitation that fails to “fully” represent their subjects’.
Bishop argues that this ‘social turn’ emphasises process over product, as opposed to dominant capitalist culture, and that the artwork is judged not critically as art, but by the quality of relations which are produced. Bishop thinks that
socially collaborative practices are all perceived as equally important artistic gestures, their social aims mean we do not judge them as boring or unsuccessful. It is als crucial to discuss, analyse and compare the work critically as art.
