Description:
1940s: Reduced Iran's central government, Tudeh party arises, US and Russia negotiate for concessions, economy suffers. Political freedom is increased, free press, Majli elections every 2 years, power struggle in gov. AIOC continues to monopolize Iran's oil.
post 1949: economic hardship, high unemployment, Ulama pushed for Islamic law, common hatred on foreign powers
Early 1950s: US and UK support Iran in order to have a stable, oil producing ally against the USSR.
1950s: US provides $500 mil+ military aid to the Shah, who then supports the US. Iranians don't like this. Shah allows only 2 political parties
