Fukuzawa Yukichi (10 janv. 1835 – 3 févr. 1901)
Description:
Fukuzawa Yukichi saw Western learning as a way to make Japan strong and independent of foreign domination.
In 1866, 1868, and 1870, he published one each of a three-volume series titled "Conditions in the West", which is his most famous work.
He never entered government service but championed a number of political causes, uncluding women's right's. He also controlled a newspaper and founded Keio University.
