French and Indian War/ Seven years war (16 mars 1754 – 16 mars 1763)
Description:
btw/ french and British, both siding with native tribes, territorial disputes
Causes:
- disputes with Fort Duquesne (taken back btw/ British and French)
- territorial disputes
Effects:
- Ohio River valley= British
- colonies pushed westward (hungry for more land, and to escape British diplomacy)
- westward expansion => angry natives and Pontiac raids against colonists
- British parliament created the PROCLAMATION LINE OF 1763
WAR = EXPENSIVE
- British raised taxes on colonies to pay off war debt
why did natives side with Europeans?
- natives thought they had some control over their land if they got into cahoots with either side of disputing Europe.
- scared that one side would take control (as long as the sides disputed, they had some control over their land being necrouached on)
