Description:

20 year-long Civil War ended when Communists won in 1949

Short pause in the war when Japan invaded during WW2

The US helped the nationalists

Communists were supplied by the USSR

Nationalists waste aid, are corrupt, and people dislike them --> Chiang Kai-shek is bad

Communists take over mainland --> Maotse Dung leads Communist take over of China (becomes PRC)

Chiang Kai-shek & Nationalists flee to Taiwan to set up Republic of China (big source of tension today)

Mark against Truman because it shows that the Truman Doctrine failed

Allies become enemies with China and there is economic, political, + social conflict across the glob for the next 40 years
