Description:
According to records of the NAACP, around 4800 lynchings occured from 1882 and 1968.
A lynching is public killing of an individual that has not received any due process. The victims were killed by hanging, decapitating and some were even burned alive. Lynchings were often public spectacles attended by the white community in celebration of white supremacy.
