Description:
=time of non-violent direct action to demand equal rights for African Americans
1939- During the Alexandra library sit-in, Black men sat down in order to read books as a transgression of the library´s "whites only" policy.
1942- Committee of Racial Equality (CORE) started demonstrations demanding desegregation of busses, theatres and restaurants.
1943- race riots and racial tensions in cities like Chicago, Detroit, LA and Harlem. E.g. the CORE organizing a sit-in at the Jack Spratt Coffee House in Chicago, Illinois.
