Reconstruction era (1 janv. 1866 – 1 janv. 1882)

Description:

During the Reconstruction era from 1865 to 1877, significant strides were made toward equal rights for African Americans in the South, supported by Union troops. This period also saw the emergence of a national African-American identity, accelerated by the aftermath of the Civil War. In a historic moment in 1870, Hiram Revels of Mississippi became the first African-American senator in the US Congress. Additionally, the Radical Republicans enacted the Reconstruction Act of 1867, which placed the South under martial law. However, despite these advancements, there was little improvement in the social status of Black Americans.
