Murosaki Shikibu (1 janv. 973 – 1 janv. 1014)

Description:

Murosaki wrote the Tale of Genji. The book, considered to be a masterpiece of world literature, and the world's first psychological novel, reveals much of the life and values of Heian aristocrats.

She is the most famous Japanese novelist and a world literary figure. Her father was a Chinese literate scholar. She was educated in Japanese prose and the Chinese classics, the latter being unusual for a Heian woman. She became a lady-in-waiting for Empress Shoshi in either 1006 or 1007. It is unsure whether Murosaki was born in 973. Murasaki died in 1014
