Battle of Stalingrad (23 août 1942 – 2 févr. 1943)
Description:
A Russian victory over Germany in winter 1942–1943 and a major turning point in the war, which led to the ultimate defeat of the Germans in May 1945.
Although German forces led a strong attack into Soviet territory, a strategic counteroffensive by Soviet forces flanked and surrounded a large body of German troops, eventually forcing them to surrender.
As a result, the casualties amounted to around 2.2 million, making it the bloodiest battle that had ever taken place.
