Description:

Who: Javanese, Sumatra citizens and Dutch colonizers.
What: major island explosion. Loudest recorded sound in history; more than 36,000 people dead. Dust and debris went into the atmosphere, and caused colored sunsets.
Krakatoa caused global temperature to drop 0.5 degrees C for five whole years until 1888.
Why: The eruption was caused by high pressure buildup in the two underlying tectonic plates.
impact: not much if anything, but the volcano is still active
