Colored Conventions (1 janv. 1830 – 1 janv. 1900)

Description:

1830-1900: Black men and women begin organizing conventions that provided a platform for them to discuss and condemn segregation and discrimination. They were able to demand suffrage and full citizenship rights, presenting resolutions and petitions and exploring strategies. Citizenship constructed in response to exclusion and defined outside of whiteness.
