Description:
Freedom Rides consisted of groups of African Americans and Whites. They were bus trips through the South that were designed to protest the segregation of bus terminals. Freedom Riders faces arrests and violence of their journey. After their arrival in Alabama, the bus was mobbed and then burned. Kennedy called in the federal marshals to break up the mob. The Freedom Riders and Freedom Rides brought in national attention. Finally, in the fall of 1961, the Kennedy administration issued regulations that would prohibit segregation in bus and train terminals.
