Berlin Airlift (24 juin 1948 – 12 mai 1949)
Description:
In June, the Russians closed all railroads, canals, and highways from western Germany into western -occupied Berlin. They thought that it would be impossible for people to get supplies and food, and that this would drive out France, Britain, and the U.S. But, the United States and their allies delivered supplies from the air. This lasted for more than a year and they were able to supply more than 2.3 million tons of supplies into West Berlin.
