Immigration restriction (1 janv. 1924 – 1 août 1924)
Description:
The Omaha Platform wanted immigration restrictions and proposed limiting undesirable immigration and regulating it more strictly. In line with this, the Immigration Act of 1924 was passed, which established a quota system based on national origins to restrict the number of immigrants allowed into the United States. The aim was to expose the misconception that the current system protects American labor. In reality, it permits the entry of paupers and criminals and crowds out American wage earners. Additionally, the Platform denounced the ineffectiveness of laws on contract labor and called for stricter restrictions on undesirable emigration.
