Started on 1962- ended on 1994. The genocide unfolded following the assassination of President Juvénal Habyarimana, a Hutu, whose plane was shot down on April 6, 1994. Subsequently, extremist elements within the Hutu ethnic majority orchestrated a systematic and widespread campaign of violence against the Tutsi minority population, as well as moderate Hutus. The genocide resulted in the brutal killing of approximately 800,000 people within a span of 100 days. took place primarily within the borders of Rwanda, a country in East-Central Africa. The violence and atrocities associated with the genocide unfolded across various regions of Rwanda, affecting both urban and rural areas. Cities, towns, and villages throughout the country witnessed widespread killings, mass displacement, and other forms of violence during the 100 days of the genocide, which lasted from April to July 1994. The capital city, Kigali, was particularly affected, as were numerous other locations across the country.
