The increasing diplomatic tension between the European great powers caused the war, which was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The war ended with the armistice agreements signed by Bulgaria, the Ottoman Empire, and Austria-Hungary with the Allies, leaving Germany isolated.
