Ithobaal I
('Ittoba'l or Ethbaal or Ithobalus) (1 févr. 878 av. J.-C. – 1 nov 847 av. J.-C.)
Description:
1 Kings 16:31
Ithobaal was a priest of the Sidonian god Astarte. He killed Phelles and assumed the throne for himself. As king, he entered into an alliance with Israel, offering his daughter, Jezebel, to be married to Ahab, the son of Omri.
Ithobaal expanded Tyre's borders as far as Beruit, including the city of Sidon.
It is unclear whether Ithobaal joined in the alliance between Aram and Israel at the Battle of Qarqar in 853 BC.
