The Saxons invaded Britain in the 5th century AD, at a similar time to when the Angles and Jutes invaded.
The Saxons were a Germanic tribe originating from Northern Germany
The Saxons existed in England until 1066
The Angles and Saxons together ruled over Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Essex, Kent, Sussex, and Wessex.
Alfred the Great was the king of the Anglo Saxons from 886 - 899 and is regarded as one of the most influential kings in the history of England.
The Saxons are credited with many words that exist in English today
Some of these include ‘house’, ‘man’ and ‘chicken’
