Ptolemy I Soter
84/85
Most trusted companion (1 janv. 367 av. J.-C. – 1 janv. 282 av. J.-C.)
Description:
Ptolemy I Soter and Alexander the Great were very close friends and comrades-in-arms. Ptolemy was one of Alexander's seven somatophylakes, or bodyguards, and he served with him on all of his campaigns. He was also one of Alexander's most trusted advisors.
After Alexander's death in 323 BC, Ptolemy was appointed satrap of Egypt. He quickly consolidated his power and eventually declared himself king of Egypt in 305 BC. He founded the Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled Egypt for over 300 years.
Ptolemy was a great admirer of Alexander, and he often portrayed himself as Alexander's successor. He even claimed to be Alexander's half-brother, though there is no evidence to support this claim.
The relationship between Ptolemy and Alexander was complex and multifaceted. They were friends, comrades, and rivals. But through it all, they remained close until Alexander's death.
