Portuguese Invasion of the Banda Oriental (17 juill. 1811 – 17 sept. 1812)
Description:
To prevent revolutionary outbreaks in its territory, and to be prepared to intervene in Spanish territory, the Portuguese Government organized the Observation Army, in the recently created Captaincy of Río Grande de San Pedro, commanded by its captain general and governor, Diego de Souza. Its plan was to annex the remaining territory of the Spanish Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata (the Banda Oriental, current Uruguay), since it was in dispute with Spain for a long time.
