The PARRY project (1 janv. 1970 – 1 janv. 1972)
Description:
PARRY, an early chatbot implemented in 1972 by psychiatrist Kenneth Colby, marks a significant development in the field of artificial intelligence. Unlike ELIZA, which simulated a Rogerian therapist, PARRY aimed to simulate a person with paranoid schizophrenia and was deemed a more serious and advanced program. Its testing in the early 1970s using a variation of the Turing Test further contributed to AI development, as psychiatrists could only correctly identify PARRY as a computer program 48% of the time. PARRY's interactions with ELIZA, notably over ARPANET during the ICCC 1972, showcased the potential for complex exchanges between AI systems.
