Maori Wars 1843-72 (1 janv. 1843 – 1 janv. 1872)
Description:
Initially localised conflicts triggered by land purchases, escalated dramatically from 1860 due to increased resistance to land sales and opposition to Crown rule. At peak (1860s): 18,000 British troops against about 4000 Maori. Guerrilla tactics used by both sides in later campaigns.
Consequences: Maori lost lots of land but gained representation with a seat in power.
