Nebuchadnezzar II was a prominent king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire who reigned from 605 BC to 562 BC. He is best known for his military campaigns and his construction projects, such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. One of his most notable military accomplishments was the siege of Jerusalem in 587 BC, which resulted in the destruction of the city and the deportation of its inhabitants to Babylon. According to biblical accounts, Nebuchadnezzar besieged the city for 18 months, during which time the people suffered greatly from hunger and disease. The siege ended with the burning of the city and the destruction of the Temple of Solomon.
