Hugo Distler (Germany) (1 janv. 1908 – 1 janv. 1942)

Description:

Studied piano, music theory, and music history at a young age. He entered the Leipzig Conservatory at 19 and studied organ and choral conducting as well as piano and composition. He was appointed a prestigious organist position in 1931, then became the head of chamber music department at the newly founded Lubeck Staatsconservatorium und Hochschule fur Musik. He jumped from one teaching post to another in Germany throughout the 30s and 40s, and after being called to the military for a 3rd time (having been excused the first two times) he committed suicide.
