Gulf of Tonkin Incident and Resolution (2 août 1964 – 7 août 1964)
Description:
The Gulf of Tonkin Incident occurred when two U.S destroyer ships radioed that they were fired on by North Vietnamese forces, and president LBJ requested to increase military involvement in Vietnam from Congress. Congressed then passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which gave LBJ the power to do what he saw fit in order to protect America, which resulted in the Vietnam War. This is important as it marks the official beginning of the Vietnam War and a large increase of American involvement in Vietnam.
