Between July 23rd and July 27th, 1967, Detroit had exploded into one of the deadliest riots in American history, lasting 5 long days. Governor George W. Romney had to call in the Michigan Army National Guard to help end the disturbance. In the end, 43 were dead, 1,189 injured, over 7,200 arrests, and more than 2,000 buildings were destroyed.
