Description:
Viewed as a Classical-Romantic composer who also incorporates elements of the late Baroque:
o Baroque – counterpoint, fugues
▪ Influenced by Bach and Handel
o Classical – balanced themes, phrase structures, form
▪ Influenced by Mozart
o Romantic –harmonic experimentation and form, passion
▪ Influenced by Beethoven
Generally composed for smaller forces, but did write a few Cantatas (Jiob, Choleramusik) which contained orchestral forces. Zum Fest der Heilifgen Caecilia is another cantata, though a parlour work and is scored for piano and SATB choir and soloists
