Di Lasso (GER) (1 janv. 1532 – 1 janv. 1594)
Description:
Cosmopolitan style
o Franco-Flemish polyphonic tradition for sacred works, Italian musica reservata/text painting, German lieder, and French chanson
• Mature Lassus works combine dramatic text painting, nervous and excited rhythmic figurations, and counterpoint.
• “…texts are realized in a highly compressed state.”
• Although Lasso is known for his motets, his masses use many of the same compositional characteristics
When compared to Palestrina: Di Lasso tends to utilize a more functional bass. That is – the bass tends to move more in fourths and fifths as opposed to being another melodic voice.
This contrasts with the Stile Antico/Prima Practica tradition of a breakdown of the hierarchy of voices, common to the works of composers such as Palestrina and Josquin.
