Description:
• Genesis: Each proper to a feast at which the Pala d'oro would have been opened
(Pala d'oro: high alter retable, major work of Byzantine enamel, 10 ft x 6.5 ft, gold/silver, thousands of gems)
• Performing Forces: All for two choirs: Choir 1 sets the overall range of the piece, Choir 2 fills in the texture
• Choirs sing together rarely, only at cadences that mark verse endings or in final doxology
• Text: Psalm text distributed evenly between the choirs, sung in alternatim style at the verse or half-verse
• Reserved and austere in style; each follows the characteristics of the underlying psalm tones
