Old Kingdom (1 janv. 2575 av. J.-C. – 1 janv. 2134 av. J.-C.)
Description:
The Old Kingdom, which occurred between ca. 2575-2134 BCE, was a significant period in Egyptian history known for its impressive art and architecture. During this time, three kings of the Fourth Dynasty constructed the pyramids at Gizeh, considered the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. These pyramids represented the sun and were believed to allow god-kings to ascend to the heavens upon death. Sculptors of the Old Kingdom were known for creating seated and standing statuary types, such as the portrait of King Khafre, that emphasized the eternal nature of divine kingship by suppressing all movement. These types remained a dominant feature of Egyptian art for approximately 2,000 years.
