Who:
Archidamus: lead Sparta through the Peloponnesian War.
Pausanias: Defeated the Persians at Plataea, but was killed in suspicion of betraying Sparta.
Leonidas: Defeated the Persians at the pass of Thermopylae.
What:
They were also known as Lacedaemon.
They were very militaristic.
Agoge was a system that trained boys from the age of 7, for military duty. They were in the military from 20-60.
Helots outnumbered the Spartans, but they were oppressed by them. They were slaves and were harm for the littlest of reasons.
Women had lots of freedom. They got education, were able to own property, and compete in competitions, however they could not serve in the military.
Peloponnesian War was a War between Sparta, Persian against Athens and Thebans.

Why: Why did they stay in Greece?
They were isolationist so they didn't want to expand.
End: In 371 they were conquered by the Thebans general Epaminondas. But they continued to live on in the Achaean league, losing power, until 192 when it was dissolved after losing the Laconian War.
Timely Impact:
Ended Athens democratic system. Controlled most of the city-states in Greece.
Lasting Impact:
A city in Greece was named Sparta and it still exists today. Created many military advancements such as the phalanx. It is depicted and remembered in movies today.
