Description:
Son of Hamilcar Barca and Carthaginian general who, during the Second Punic War, crossed the Alps with an army of 35,000 men equipped with elephants to launch an attack on Roman armies. Although successful at Lake Trasimeno and Cannae, he was eventually defeated at the Battle of Sama after suffering exposure, starvation, and loss of man and animal in the frigid Alps.
