- Menahem paid tribute to Tiglath-Peleser, who ascended the Throne in 745, meaning Pekah could not have been King at this point.
One theory that has some plausabily is that Pekah ruled a rival kingdom in Gilead, given the phrase "Israel, even Ephraim" is more accurately translated "Israel and Ephraim" implying separate entities
