Description:
fueled by the Russo-Japanese war with its navy being defeated and the break down of the transport system causing food shortages. Then on January 22 troops at the winter palace open fired on peaceful protesters killing hundreds "Bloody Sunday". Workers held strikes and formed unions, people demanded parliamentary government, ethnic groups revolted, and peasants burned houses. The tsar, Nicholas II, heeded and agreed to make a legislative assembly (called the Duma) and grant civil liberties. However by 1907 Nicholas II fell back to the army and bureaucracy to rule Russia
