Greensboro Sit In (1 févr. 1960 – 5 févr. 1960)

Description:

The Greensboro sit in was a civil rights movement that started in 1960s when young African-American students staged a sit in at a segregated lunch counter in North Carolina. On February 1st 1960, four students sat down at a lunch counter in Woolworth’s in Greensboro. Their official policy was to refuse service to anyone who was not white. However, they refused to leave after being denied service. The next day, they arrived with more students at their college. By February 5th, 300 students joined the protest in Woolworth’s and other businesses. The movement spread quickly as young black and white people joined the peaceful protest against segregation in libraries, beachers, hotels and other establishments. In response to the success, dining facilities across the South were integrated.
