Amerigo Vespucci (1 janv. 1499 – 1 janv. 1504)
Description:
It is still unclear that how many voyages Vespucci was on, as there might be a third expeidtion made by Vespucci. In May 1499, Vespucci went on his first expedition. He reached the coast of what is now Guyana, then turned south. He discovere the Amazon River. Vespucci thought he has reached the coast of Asia, and he called the tip of the peninsula Cape Cattigara. He immediately decided to start his second expedition with after he got back from his first one, aiming to reach the Indian Ocean. However the Spanish government denied his exploration, and he went under the Portugueses's service. He sailed southwestward and reached the coast of Brazil, and the remaining part of the expedition still remains as not clear, although Vespucci claimed that he continued westward. Vespucci finally anchored at Lisbon on July 22, 1502. Vespucci was known for finding South America and distinguished it from North America, and his name was used to name the continents.https://www.history.com/topics/exploration/amerigo-vespucci
