John Cabot (1 janv. 1496 – 1 janv. 1500)

Description:

In 1496, King Henry VII issued a letter to Cabot and he started his exploration journey. In May 1497, John Cabot sailed out of Bristol with 18 other men. On June 24th, Cabot reached the shore of North America. Although he saw a few people, there was enough evidence to support that there is a group of people living in this vast land. He kept on exploring with his team and named various places. However, Cabot thought he reached the north east coast of Asia, just like Columbus. He returned back to Bristol in August 1497 with some newly discovered reports. In London, late 1497, Cabot proposed to King Henry VII again to set out another expedition across the Atlantic Ocean. In February 1498, King Henry VII issued a letter for the second expedition. This time, Cabot traveled with 300 men and 5 ships. During the voyage, one ship was reported to be damaged and submerged, and the other four ships kept on westwarding. However, Cabot and his men never came back. It was thought that they got caught in a storm and perished in the sea; other evidence suggested that they reached North America and lived there; some documents showed that they went back to England at some point.
