-Had to be born just before Herod died

-Josephus writes that there was an eclipse shortly before Herod's death. We can simulate and date this to March 12th, 4 BC

-Herod must have died before passover that same year (which was held on April 11th in 4 BC)
...So Herod died sometime between March 12th and April 11th, 4 BC (With April 11th, 4 BC being the latest possible date for Jesus' birth)

-Matt 2:16 implies that Jesus may have been up to 2 years old by the time of the star (though, does it make sense that the star was there for 2 years?). Likely Herod was being overly cautious.

-These details put the birth of Jesus anywhere from 7BC - 4BC, with the most likely year being 5 BC, likely during the later winter (P. Maier, "Date of the Nativity")
