Description:
American nurse and the first African American woman to complete the course of professional study in nursing. In 1936, the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses, which later merged with the American Nurses Association, established the Mary Mahoney Medal in her honor, given to a member of the organization who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing.
