Northern Qi (27yrs) 550-577 Hostile to Han Influence (1 déc. 550 – 1 janv. 577)

Description:

Yecheng Hebei

After Gao Cheng was assassinated in 549, in 550 Gao Huan’s second son Yang
洋 (Emperor Wenxuan 文宣, r. 550–559) openly usurped the Eastern Wei throne,
founding his own Northern Qi dynasty. He then made his Chinese wife his formal
Empress, against the objections of officials who complained that ‘‘a Han [Chinese]
lady could not be Mother to all Under Heaven’’ (漢婦人不可為天下母), and he
also, in a departure from previous ethnic occupational specialization, selected
Chinese men (Huaren 華人) of exceptional bravery for military service in frontier
defense.........Nonetheless, Gao Yang still also expressed great displeasure that his own son and heir had acquired too much of the character of a Han Chinese, and took offense at being advised that the ‘‘carriage-and-horse
Xianbei guests will have to use Chinese people’’ in successfully governing their
empire (鮮卑車馬客,會須用中國人).
